When we are stressed our body reacts by producing cortisol and other hormones that tells the sebaceous to produce more oil. This oil on the skin makes you vulnerable to skin problems such as acne and eczema.
Chances are that if you are stressed you will neglect your skin care routine thereby aggravating your skin problems.
Studies have also shown that a stressful life can increase ones chances of getting cancer later in life.
There are ways you can reduce the effect of stress on your skin as it is a part of everyday life.
Take care of your skin daily, even when you are too tired.
Exercise regularly. This will restore your body and mind and it will make you calmer.
Have a me time, when you do things you enjoy.
Manage your time well and write your to do list in order of priority. Start one thing at a time and finish it. Remember that you can not do everything at once.
Engage in stress management activities such as yoga, meditation and breathing exercises.
Learn to say no to taking on additional responsibilities.
Reduce your consumption of alcohol and caffeinated drinks. They are stimulants which increase stress in the body.
Get between 7- 8 hours of sleep daily. Get your self into a relaxed state by either reading or taking a warm bath to induce sleep.
If you are ill, rest for a few days, don’t struggle to carry on as usual. This way, your body will heal faster and you will come out feeling refreshed after your rest.
