Too much sunlight endangers the body, but it has a lot of benefits as well, however, moderation is key for getting the best of the health benefits of sunlight.
Sunlight boosts vitamin D production. Vitamin D is synthesized from the sun and it has many functions. It strengthens bones and teeth, it helps lose excess fat, it supports the immune system, protects the brain against dementia and it decreases the symptoms of asthma in children and adult.
It may help prevent cancer. A connection between Vitamin D deficiency and cancer has been made. Research shows that a deficiency of vitamin D increases the risk of breast and colon cancer.
Research shows that exposure to sunlight throughout the day can help reduce some aspects of Alzheimer’s disease.
A little time spent in sunlight helps boost serotonin production. Serotin is a neurotransmitter that regulates sleep, appetite, mood and memory. Research carried out shows that the more sunlight people are exposed to, the better their mood was, but on darker days the reverse was the case. The study therefore shows that increased level of serotonin, the natural anti-depressant is produced by the brain during sunny days than darker days.
Sunlight also improves sleep, by decreasing the body’s production of melatonin( an hormone that makes you sleep) during the day and increases it at night.
