Apart from having dark skin tone, our skin can get darkened as a result of other factors such as stress, over exposure to sunlight, dryness of skin, hyperpigmentation or from chemicals in cosmetics. There are lotions and creams available for lightening the skin but most of them contain harmful chemicals which are not good for the skin.

There are natural and safe methods of lightening dark skin and they include the
following:

Using lemon or lime juice. Squeeze out the fresh juice of lime or lemon and use a ball of cotton wool to dab on the face and neck. If the lime or lemon is too acidic for your skin, add a little bit of water to it. Leave on the skin
between 5 and 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Apply moisturizer afterwards and use this treatment every other day for your skin.

Orange can be used for lightening skin by making it into a paste when you add tumeric to it. Apply on your face and neck and leave it on overnight.

Orange peels can be grinded and made into a paste by adding yogurt. Put the paste on your face and leave it for 10-20 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. This should be done twice a week.

Honey acts as a moisturizer for dry skin and it can help lighten skin that has darkened as a result of being dry. Apply the honey on your skin and leave it on for 15 – 20 minutes before washing it off with warm water.

Aloe vera helps to brighten skin that has become dull as a result of hyperpigmentation. It works well on the skin to give you a smooth and shining complexion. Squeeze out the gel out of an aloe vera leaf and apply all over your body and leave on for like 30 minutes before washing it off.

Cucumber and honey is great for the skin. Peel off the green part and grate your cucumber, then mix it with honey. Apply on the face and leave it on for 10- 20 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

All this natural alternatives are safe for use on your skin, try out different methods of naturally lightening your skin to see which one suits your skin best.
